Freida Pinto On Maxim

After signing a Woody Allen's film, Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto is now all set to sizzle on the cover of Maxim.

Maxim India's March 2009 issue will see Freida sporting an oversized sweater on the cover. Her expression is playful, naughty and a little ambiguous in the picture.

Unlike her previous avatars, where she appeared all dolled up, Freida will be seen in a little more natural look with less of make-up and accessories.

Her earlier cover act with Vogue magazine emerged highly appreciated and popular. With this new cover tryst with Maxim, it seems the actress is all set for her journey in the glam world.

We read about how Himesh Reshammiya has refused to sing for A R Rahman. But Rahman says he has never met Reshammiya.
Laughs the softpoken maestro sarcastically, "Our communication has been only through the press. He told the press he wanted to sing for me. I told the press I had composed a song that would suit his voice. To this he replied again through the press that he didn't want to sing for me. We've not met. We haven't exchanged a call or an sms."

Rahman finds it strange that after hounding him for so long Reshammiya changed his mind. "For the past two years I had been reading about how he wanted to sing for me. As a gesture returning his compliment I thought this song would be perfect. I didn't know he would sing for me only when I compose for a film starring him. I don't know if I can do that," say Rahman who turns 41 in January.

"2008 was my most productive year in Hindi cinema in the last ten years. I had 7 soundtracks in the North and South. And I'm happy with all of them. God has been kind. I haven't planned anything big for 2008. But my music school in Chennai is my biggest dream come true. The whole of 2008 the school gave me a high."

Sonam Kapoor has become an actor today but she was quite inclined towards academics in her growing up years.

I still feel bad that I haven't done my graduation."

Talking about her love for reading, she also shares an interesting fact about herself. She is not just fascinated with the English language but also loves studying subjects like History and Geography.

"That's true", confirms Sonam, "While I had a soft corner for languages, it wasn't possible for me to stay away from History and Geography for long. I always enjoyed my stint with studies during school and for me reading was a lot of fun. What also helped me engage in studies was the fact that I didn't have to do the same things time and over again. I was constantly learning."

While everybody drive their way to a barber, hairstylist or hairdresser, our SRK has his stylist come to his home. SRK has a dressing room at his home Mannat, where his stylist Dilshad Pastakia style’s his hair. So check out what the duo are talking about…

SRK: I don’t understand how the word barber is casteist… but I understand the emotions of the association. Hair dressers and stylists, they are creative people…
Dilshad: Yes, we create hairstyles for you…

SRK: But the film is not about the barber’s profession, the profession is incidental, Billu is about love and friendship, it’s about environment, so much fun… it’s the least controversial film.
Dilshad: I have no problem being called a barber. We’re cutting hair, that’s what the profession is about. If you call a barber a hair-stylist, you’re just changing the term, not giving him a different profession.

SRK: The associations issue is that the Hindi word nai, when translated into English, becomes barber. And nai is a caste. Which makes barber a caste. But then so is hair-dresser!
Dilshad: Hajam would have been closer… I’ve been called a hajam for years. Actually, the profession ought to be happy to be acknowledged in a Shah Rukh Khan film…

No heavy-duty action scenes for Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan for the next six months, say doctors who successfully operated upon him for a nagging pain in the left shoulder.

"Shahrukh's surgery went off fine and he should be back home in two days. However, he will require some good rest for a long period and he has been advised not to do any strenuous work," said Sanjay Desai, orthopaedic surgeon at Breach Candy Hospital here.

So, in effect Shahrukh will be on a forced break for six weeks to fully recuperate. However, he will host the Filmfare awards on March 7, which were scheduled for Feb 28 earlier. The organisers postponed the date for Shahrukh's sake.

He can take up heavy-duty action scenes only after six months.

"It's a normal precaution that one has to take. The surgery was long pending and it is good that he finally took out time for it. Keeping in mind that he would only become busier in months to come, it made sense that he got himself operated before it was too late," Desai said.

King Khan underwent an arthroscopic surgery for a nagging pain in his left shoulder Monday. His family, friends and fans heaved a sigh of relief when it was announced that the surgery, which lasted 45 minutes, had been successful. A team of three doctors performed the surgery.

The self-confessed fitness freak leads a disciplined life but never skips a workout regime.

The actress, whose father is an army officer, is particularly careful about her fitness routine when she is shooting for films.

"On shoot days I have to have to work out in the morning. No matter what the call time is, whether it is 9am or later, I completely avoid reporting on sets without having followed my regimen. But of course, I ensure that my reporting timelines are met," Gul told a Masala source.

"It is crucial to have the energy to give your best all day long and more so in our profession where being in best shape is a bare necessity," she said.

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has dismissed rumours that his much-awaited Delhi-6 is an onscreen autobiographical adaptation.
However, the Rang de Basanti writer does admit he has used some fond memories of his childhood and youth in the movie.

“Delhi-6 is not an autobiography at all. I've just delved into my childhood memories and my youth in the film. I've only used what I observed when I was growing up in the backdrop. It's more of the colour of that life that has been used in the background than anything else,” Mehra told the IANS news agency.

"It's the story of an Indian origin American boy Roshan Mehra who comes to India to drop his ailing grandmother...like taking a fish back to water. It is the journey of this man and his search for his roots," he said.

Delhi-6 was written by Mehra along with Prasoon Joshi and Kamlesh Pandey.

Madhur Bhandarkar has denied that his next movie, Jail, was inspired by the troubled life of Sanjay Dutt.

"The film is not at all inspired by Sanjay Dutt's or anyone's life. It is a common man's perspective about how he gets into jail and how he gets stuck in a situation,” Madhur told reporters.

“It is about a middle-class family boy working in the corporate sector and how after one sudden incident, he goes to jail," said Bhandarkar.

Bhandakar is famed for the authenticity of his films and is trying to gain permission to film inside real prisons.

"I'm working towards shortlisting three or four jails, but I have to first get the permission to shoot there,” said the man who directed Page 3, Chandni Bar and Fashion.

“I want to shoot in real jails to bring authenticity to that narrative. As of now, I have been to two jails in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) and to the Yerawada jail in Pune," he said.
